How to Whiten Your Nails
Your natural nails can lose their white color by excessive use of nail polish, acrylics or gels. They may become yellowish and may contain stains. Often nail yellowish nail color doesn’t look appealing at all and gives off a strong sense of bad hygiene.
The bright side about having yellowish nails is that they can be whitened with some easy home remedies. If you want to get rid of the stains or patches, there are many ways for it depending on what type and color stain/patches exist on your natural nail bed!
1. Lemon Juice
Perhaps an easy method is to use lemon juice. Lemon juice is acidic in nature and it reacts with nail stains so that they can be removed easily to bring back their natural white color. Simply soak your nails in lemon juice for about 15 minutes, and then use a tooth brush to scrub your nails until they regain their white color. After that wash your hands with warm water and use a moisturizer, because lemon juice can create irritation and dryness due to acidity. Using this method twice daily takes about few weeks to whiten your nails.
2. Whitening Toothpaste
Another simple way to whiten your nails is using a whitening toothpaste, a pretty common item in your home. Whitening toothpaste contain Sodium fluoride, a chemical that is tough on stains of your teeth. The same way, it can be tougher on the stains of your nails. For this method to work, take small amounts of whitening toothpaste and spread a thin layer on your nails and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and then using a nail brush, scrub the paste on your nails. This process takes a month to whiten your nails while repeating the process 2 to 3 times a week.
3. Orange Peelings
Orange contains a lot of Vitamin C which is acidic in nature and is perfect for removing yellowish stains from your nails. However, you will need dried orange peels in a concentrated amount for this to work. You start by mixing the dried orange peels with very little quantity of water and make it into a form of thick paste to be applied on your nails. Leave the paste to dry for about 10 to 15 minutes and use a toothbrush to gently scrub off the dried paste residue. After washing your hands, use a moisturizer to protect your skin from acidic irritation. Using this method, 2 times a day for one or 2 weeks is usually enough for effective results.
4. Bleaching
This method requires a use of a bleaching agent, namely hydrogen peroxide. Diluted quantities of this stuff is readily available in shops as cleaning material for you clothes and apparel. Take a small bowl and mix a little hydrogen peroxide with a baking soda making the consistency of the mixture as that of a thick paste. Then using a cotton swab apply the paste all around your nails. If your nails are longer then apply this paste on the inner side of your extended nails too. Let the mixture stay on your nails for about 3 to 5 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. It should give immediate results. This procedure is not healthy for your nail health if repeated every other day. Therefore it is recommended to be repeated every 6 to 8 weeks.
